ideas & Inspiration for Pollinator Drink Station • №10

The other day while sitting outside I noticed a wasp flying around my fountain.  Now this isn't unusual, but he would land on the edge and carefully try to get him some water while not falling in.  As I sat and watched him, I  remembered that I had read somewhere that making a water station for pollinators in your garden was useful, unless you're not careful and get stung.

FYI  This is a great project for kids. You can use it as a learning experience and who knows you may learn something new!

A quick Search provided several ideas! So, off I went to see what I had on hand to make a simple one.

Or you can buy one.  This one is absolutely adorable!

SUPPLIES

  • a shallow bowl or saucer
  • A terracotta pot
  • Craft paint (optional)
  • E6000 glue (optional)
  • Rocks or peebles
  • Water (of course!)

ASSEMBLE

  1. I grabbed 3 small terracotta pots and a saucer.
  2. Washed thoroughly and let dry
  3. Once dry (I didn't do this) you can paint the pots you're using.  DO NOT paint the saucer unless you're using non-toxic paint.  Let dry.
  4. You don't have to do this step if you choose not to.  Glue the bottom of the saucer to the bottom of the pot, making sure it's centered.
  5. I found a spot to place the watering station.  I  turned the pots upside down and stacked them.  Grabbed some rocks and placed them in the saucer and added water.

I've seen a few pollinators using it, BUT, they still seem to like the challenge of drinking from the fountain without falling in! 🤷‍♀️

until next time! Tina
