Reading Nook

What I've Read | March 2023

Welcome back to the Reading Nook & this month's 'What I've Read' series. The 'What I've Read" series is a monthly post and will be a combination of audible, kindle and physical books.
Let me know if you've read/listened to any of these books and if so what you thought.

DEATH IN THE AIR | Author:  Kate Winkler Dawson | Narrator: Graeme Malcolm |Audible: 9hrs 30min |☆☆☆¾

A real-life thriller in the vein of The Devil in the White City, Kate Winkler Dawson's debut Death in the Air is a gripping, historical narrative of a serial killer, an environmental disaster, and an iconic city struggling to regain its footing.

In winter 1952, London automobiles and thousands of coal-burning hearths belched particulate matter into the air. But the smog that descended on December 5th of 1952 was different; it was a type that held the city hostage for five long days. Mass transit ground to a halt, criminals roamed the streets, and 12,000 people died. That same month, there was another killer at large in London: John Reginald Christie, who murdered at least six women. In a braided narrative that draws on extensive interviews, never-before-published material, and archival research, Dawson captivatingly recounts the intersecting stories of the these two killers and their longstanding impact on modern history...

This next book was a little slow at first but it was worth it.  Alot of twists and turns and the ending... well...                        If you haven't read this book,  I recommend you do!

THE SILENT PATIENT | AUTHOR: Alex Michaelides |NARRATORS: Jack Hawkins & Louise Brealey | Audible: 8hrs 51min | ☆☆☆☆½

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband―and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations―a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

Happy reading!!

Guest Bathroom Reveal

When we bought our home in 2009 I knew eventually that the builder grade bathroom tile would be replaced sometime in the future. Fast forward to 2021...Jeff and I were on one of our many visits to Lowes when I spotted this tile. I knew immediately that was the tile. I also wanted a new sink, vanity, mirror, toilet, tub door and lights. We bought everything needed for the project and got to work.

Before

We removed the sink, vanity, toilet & mirror.  Then began removing the tile floor.

WOW, was that a job and messy!!

We decided to hire a plumber to install the toilet. Putting the new cabinet in was a so fun (sarcasm), or specially since the walls weren't square!

I picked out 12×24 tile.

We had to wait for the tub doors to come in, but the kids & grandkids were coming in, so a temporary shower curtain was hung.

Here's what it looks like once the doors came in.

I love the way it turned out!

A Note from Tina | №5 (R.I.P)

Welcome to 'A Note from Tina' a weekly or so post, where I share life lately, my favorite ideas, inspiration, small businesses, home decor, recipes, instagram feeds, favorite purchases, etc or get on my soapbox about the price of eggs and/or social media!

This is a post that took me awhile to write...

R.I.P
The month of January was a difficult time for my family.  On January 7th our sweet Bella Moonshine Stargazer, aka Bella, crossed the rainbow bridge. 💔 To say we were heartbroken is an understatement.

Then...

exactly 20 days later my daddy, my hero passed away at 97. 💔💔 My mom and dad had celebrated their 70th anniversary in December. We had a celebration of life for him in February; thankfully everyone (children, grandchildren & great grandchildren) were able to attend. My mother is a strong woman and is doing good.

This was taken at his 97th birthday

I miss them both 😪 so much.

Enjoy your day! ♡ Tina
