What I've Read | April 2012

Good Morning and welcome to the reading nook!

First I am going to give you a little background on why I chose two of the books on the list. As many of you may or may not know, I have been in college for the past 5 years. One of the classes that I have taken was 'History of the Holocaust'. It was a very interesting and heart wrenching class. I already knew a lot about the Holocaust but this class actually went into more detail about the people involved, the horrifying conditions and the survivors. Now some may have read these books, I know Oprah's book club read one, but for those that haven't, I will forewarn you now, they may be disturbing.  I am not a person that cries, but I did find my self  putting the books down and walking away.

These two books were written by Holocaust survivors. The fascinating part about these books is how each survived but in different ways. I really hope you find these books interesting.

1. "NIGHT"  BY: Elie Wiesel (a new translation by Marion Wiesel)
"Night -- A terrifying account  of the Nazi death camp horror that turns a young  Jewish boy into an agonized witness to the death of  his family...the death of his innocence...and the  death of his God. Penetrating and powerful, as  personal as The Diary Of Anne  FrankNightawakens the shocking  memory of evil at its absolute and carries with it  the unforgettable message that this horror must  never be allowed to happen again."
 * Many claim this copy with his wife's translation is better, so this is the one that
I will list the prices for.

*Abe Books (used books)  This is where I purchase majority of my books; especially since they closed Books-A-Million. I have already put the search information in. The link will take you to that page. All you have to do is figure out what condition you would like the book to be in. Prices are running less than $5.00
*Amazon/Kindle These copies (including audio) are running less than $20.00, Kindle is $9.99
*Barnes and Noble/Nook These copies (including audio) are also running less thank $20.00, NOOK is $9.99
*Books-A-Million Price less than $20.00

2. "SURVIVAL IN AUSCHWITZ" BY: Primo Levi
"In 1943, Primo Levi, a twenty-five-year-old chemist and "Italian citizen of Jewish race," was arrested by Italian fascists and deported from his native Turin to Auschwitz. Survival in Auschwitz is Levi's classic account of his ten months in the German death camp, a harrowing story of systematic cruelty and miraculous endurance. Remarkable for its simplicity, restraint, compassion, and even wit, Survival in Auschwitz remains a lasting testament to the indestructibility of the human spirit. Included in this new edition is an illuminating conversation between Philip Roth and Primo Levi never before published in book form."
*Barnes and Nobles/NOOK Price less than $10.00. Unfortunately the only copy I could find for NOOK is the one with the Study guide so I am not listing the price for that.
*Amazon/Kindle Price less than $10.00. The study guide and a spanish version are the only ones available for Kindle.
*Abe Books Price less than $10.00
