Reading Nook

What I've Read | December 2022

Welcome back to the Reading Nook & Vol. 25 of the 'What I've Read' series. The 'What I've Read" series is a monthly post and will be a combination of audible, kindle and physical books. Let me know if you've read/listened to any of these books and if so what you thought.

A LINE TO KILL. When Ex-Detective Inspector Daniel Hawthorne and his sidekick, author Anthony Horowitz, are invited to an exclusive literary festival on Alderney, an idyllic island off the south coast of England, they don’t expect to find themselves in the middle of murder investigation—or to be trapped with a cold-blooded killer in a remote place with a murky, haunted past. AUTHOR: ANTHONY HOROWITZ (read by: Roy Kinnear)

  • Barnes & Nobles | Amazon | Audible: 8hr 50min | ☆☆☆☆
  • "Arriving on Alderney, Hawthorne and Horowitz soon meet the festival’s other guests—an eccentric gathering that includes a bestselling children’s author, a French poet, a TV chef turned cookbook author, a blind psychic, and a war historian—along with a group of ornery locals embroiled in an escalating feud over a disruptive power line. When a local grandee is found dead under mysterious circumstances, Hawthorne and Horowitz become embroiled in the case. The island is locked down, no one is allowed on or off, and it soon becomes horribly clear that a murderer lurks in their midst. But who?"

  • Another who done it!!

MOONFLOWER MURDERS. Moonflower Murders is a 2020 mystery novel by British author Anthony Horowitz and the second novel in the Susan Ryeland series. The story focuses on the disappearance of a hotel employee and utilizes a story within a story format. AUTHOR: Anthony Horowitz (read by:Allan Corduner, Lesley Manville)

  • BARNES & NOBLES | AMAZON | Audible 18hr 28min | ☆☆☆¾
  • "The novel Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz is two murder mysteries in one. To solve the mystery of the disappearance of Cecily Treherne, daughter of the owners of the luxury hotel Branlow Hall, Susan Ryeland must investigate a murder that occurred on the grounds of the hotel eight years prior. Cecily’s last words to her parents were that she had read a novel by the late Alan Conway that proved to her that the police had arrested the wrong man in that murder. Because Susan was Alan’s editor and publisher, Cecily’s parents hoped she could determine what Alan wrote in his book so they could find their daughter before it was too late."
  • Although a really good book...it was long!

BIG LIES IN A SMALL TOWN. What happened to Anna Dale? Are the clues hidden in the decrepit mural? Can Morgan overcome her own demons to discover what exists beneath the layers of lies? AUTHOR: Diane Chamberlain (read by: Susan Bennett)

  • BARNES & NOBLES | AMAZON | Audible 13hr 9min | ☆☆☆☆
  • "North Carolina, 2018:
Morgan Christopher's life has been derailed. Taking the fall for a crime she did not commit, her dream of a career in art is put on hold—until a mysterious visitor makes her an offer that will get her released from prison immediately. Her assignment: restore an old post office mural in a sleepy southern town. Morgan knows nothing about art restoration, but desperate to be free, she accepts. What she finds under the layers of grime is a painting that tells the story of madness, violence, and a conspiracy of small town secrets. North Carolina, 1940
    :
Anna Dale, an artist from New Jersey, wins a national contest to paint a mural for the post office in Edenton, North Carolina. Alone in the world and in great need of work, she accepts. But what she doesn't expect is to find herself immersed in a town where prejudices run deep, where people are hiding secrets behind closed doors, and where the price of being different might just end in murder."

Main Dish Recipe

Pasta Fagioli

How many of you love soup? Yes me to! How many of you love pasta fagioli? Yes me too!

Yummy!

*NOTE sometimes as this sits and cools it may thicken up, adding more water will bring it back to a soupy consistency.

Happy Cooking & Enjoy your day! ♡ Tina
