Life Lately 

Wow, Did this summer go by fast or what? Labor day marks the unofficial end of summer.  It's hard to believe it is this weekend! Where did the time go? 

Of course there are many that have started decorating for fall/halloween ... but I just can't, it's to darn early! Have you started fall/halloween decorating yet? 

Our grandson (middle school) and granddaughter (elementary school) started mid-August. "D" our oldest grandson is in his second year of college. How many of you remember when school started the day after Labor day?

DH and I took a short trip to my daughter's in Florida to drop off the furniture she inherited from my mom. It was a nice little break. It's so peaceful in the morning and evening on their back porch. 

So, any big plans for Labor day weekend?  Not sure what we'll be doing 🤔, probably work on some projects.



I've fallen behind on editing my posts, so please bear with me!

  • Have you ever heard of a Blackberry Shrub? It's an old fashioned drink that sounds yummy! 

What I Bought:

Right now I'm searching for pillow covers. I know what I want but haven't found them yet. (sigh, so frustrating) 
I have bought a few things but haven't received/ used them yet. 

We had to put Sarge to sleep this past weekend 😪 He was almost 15yrs old and having a lot of health problems.

DIY Lamps

Hey! Do you switch lamps out like you do socks? I do! Especially in the family room.  I'm not sure why, but every lamp I've used in there was never exactly what I wanted.  We've lived in this house since 2009 and until 2022 there was a revolving door of lamps!

I had ordered 4 of these table legs for a project but changed my mind, so they sat in the garage for some time.  Then one day I was shopping for lamps (again) and spotted some that I loved the style of,  but not the color or price. I showed Jeff, he mentioned that the style resembled the legs in the garage.  I had a light bulb moment, there were my lamps! 

It took me a few weeks to gather the stuff we needed, then another month for me to find the lampshades and Jeff a few hours to make the lamps. But in the end it was worth it! 

Supplies


This is a very simple diy. 

BASE

  1. Cut the base for the lamp, then mark center and drill a ⅜" hole all the way through 
  2. Flip base over, using the router, router a groove for the cord to tuck into

Lamp Body

  1. Find center of leg on both ends and mark 
  2. Clamp leg down securely and drill hole through the leg (this takes some muscle and time)
  3. Sand of any rough edges from drilling
  4. Attach base with glue (and/or nails)
  5. Stain or paint 
  6. Once dry feed cord from the top to the bottom 
  7. Assemble light socket, add light, harp and shade.

There you have it.  Your new lamps.

The Benefits of Watermelon | Did You Know

Who out there loves Watermelon? I do, it's so refreshing on a hot day, or any day honestly. The Watermelon above is 1 of 3 that's growing in my garden. Fingers crossed they're good! Have you ever grown Watermelon? Are there any secrets I should know?
